The annual Flatbush Frolic returns to Brooklyn on Sunday, Sept. 27, bringing music, food, art, entertainment and local businesses to Cortelyou Road for a daylong celebration of the neighborhood.
Hosted by the Flatbush Development Corporation, the street fair has been a Flatbush tradition since 1975 and remains one of the area’s longest-running community events.
This year’s festival will take place from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm along Cortelyou Road between Coney Island Ave. and Ocean Ave., according to Brownstoner.
Admission is free, allowing visitors to walk through the festival, browse vendor booths and enjoy live performances without an entrance fee. Food, rides, merchandise and other vendor offerings will be available for purchase.
More than 150 vendors are expected to participate and reflect the area's diverse culinary traditions, including Caribbean and Mexican vendors.
The Frolic offers a way for Brooklyn residents and visitors to experience Flatbush’s diverse cultural and commercial life in one setting. Its long history also connects the current neighborhood with a street-fair tradition that has continued through decades of change.
Among this year’s features is the Hoop Bus, a mobile basketball attraction making its debut at the Frolic near East 19th Street.
The festival will also include live music and performances, with the main stage featuring musicians, bands, dancers and students from neighborhood music and dance schools.
The festival will take place rain or shine and no advance registration is required for visitors. Those planning to attend can arrive during the event hours and explore the street fair at their own pace.
