Fall Foraging & Tasting Adventure with Top NYC Arborist at The Evergreens Cemetery with New York Adventure Club

November 11, 2018 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm $29 The Evergreens Cemetery

Explore one of NYC’s great urban forests and forage for the unusual foods they produce with a legend in the field.

Join New York Adventure Club for an exclusive tree foraging and tasting adventure at The Evergreens Cemetery — built in 1849 in the ‘rural’ style, this cemetery on the National Register of Historic Places contains over 30 species of trees spread out across 225 acres.

Led by Bill Logan, one of NYC’s leading arborists, our unique foraging adventure will include:

  • A brief overview of The Evergreens Cemetery, and how the forces that shaped the history of New York — population growth, immigration, and growing wealth — also shaped the cemetery
  • An exploration of the cemetery’s grounds to see some of its most notable trees including oak, beech, hickory, pine, sassafras, fir, and linden
  • The lore, history, science, and recipes relating to the trees in one of NYC’s great urban forests
  • Tasting of a curated selection of edible foods from several trees on the route along with treats and goodies made from little-known tree products (chocolate with pine tree oil, anyone?)

Our foraging experience will conclude underground in the cemetery’s 19th-century Receiving Vault, which is opened up only on special occasions!
