Celebrate the new season, and the re-opening of Fort Greene’s Fowler Square, on Saturday, September 22, from 12 – 4pm! The beautifully designed public plaza space, popular with lunch crowds, local neighbors, students, and others was completed prior to summer’s start and has become the ideal place to meet, hang, and people watch on busy Fulton Street. The completion of Fowler Square also helped mark NYC DOT’s 10th anniversary of the plaza program, a key part of the City’s effort to ensure that all New Yorkers live within a 10-minute walk of quality open space. Join us as we welcome fall with a FREE series of tours and cultural programming dedicated to the history and progress of the plaza, and its namesake, General Fowler.
Live musical performances by the Lafayette Inspirational Ensemble and Jeff Newell’s New Trad Sextet will entertain, along with an operatic performance commissioned by American Opera Projects and The Walt Whitman Project. Two Fort Greene walking tours (1pm and 4pm) between Fort Greene Park and Fowler Square will trace the history of General Edward Brush Fowler in Brooklyn. (Tours are FREE, but require advanced registration; sign up here.)
FABulous Fowler! A Celebration of Fowler Square is presented by FAB Fulton, with generous support from Council Member Laurie A. Cumbo and NYC Small Business Services.
