On Monday, Brooklyn Academy of Music hosted its Annual Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Howard Gilman Opera House.
Now in its 31st year, the celebration brought together the Brooklyn community to hear speeches and performances by civic leaders, civil rights activists and entertainers in commemoration of the life and legacy of Dr. King.
Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams hosted the event, and this year’s keynote speaker was Black Lives Matter Co-founder Opal Tometi. NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife Chirlane McCray also provided words of dedication, along with NY Governor Andrew Cuomo, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries and others.
