WHO:              Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, EmblemHealth, TD Bank

WHAT:            Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration, EmblemHealth and TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, have partnered to launch a community-wide literacy initiative during the Marcy Plaza Farmers’ Market. Every Wednesday in August and September, local Brooklyn-based authors and illustrators will share their work with local Bedford Stuyvesant residents and their children, through readings and interactive art demonstrations. Sponsored by TD Bank, the first 10 children to attend each reading will receive a free, signed copy of the featured book. Also, all participating children will be eligible to take part in TD Bank’s Summer Reading Program where if they read 10 books, they will receive a $10 deposit into a new or existing young saver account. Other children’s activities will include two financial literacy workshops hosted by Financial Empowerment Center as well as a kiddie corner where children can play games promoting physical fitness and health.

8/12, 1 pm   2 pm       Zetta Elliott, author of Bird and The Last Bunny in Brooklyn

8/19, 1 pm – 2 pm        Javaka Steptoe, illustrator of Jimi: Sounds Like a Rainbow and What’s Special About ME, Mama?

8/5, 3 pm – 3:30 pm     Bed Stuy Restoration’s Financial Empowerment Center, Money as Your Grow workshop

8/26, 1 pm – 2 pm        Diana Lee Santamaria, author of the DLee’s World preschool literacy learning series

8/26, 12 pm – 2 pm      YMCA Kid’s Corner activities and games
