Takeaway here should be that the City Council badly needs to reconsider zoning regulations that were codified a half century ago. Not only has zoning drastically decreased access to new housing to meet increasing demand, it’s also artificial restricted places for new stores while increasing car traffic through parking minimums. So many of our current problems have their roots in zoning codes written when we knew a whole lot less about what makes healthy and happy communities.
