Like it does at the end of each and every week, the weekend has arrived and feeling rather feisty! Perhaps you’re going out of town this weekend or maybe you’re already down in South Beach for Art Basel Miami… and if so, these event picks aren’t for you. But if you’re staying in the city for the weekend and more importantly, if you’ll be running around Brooklyn, then here’s somethings you might wanna check out.
Stay home and read an e-book. Here’s a good one: A Rendezvous With Destiny—
Make sure you get out in the day time on Saturday. The nights are longer, the days are shorter and Santa is coming to your house to eat your cookies. Hit up the 3rd Annual Fort Greene Holiday Market, at Urban Assembly Academy Of Arts and Letters, at 225 Adelphi Street, featuring over 40 pop-up vendors, arts and craft activities for the kids and a camera situation to catch your pretty mug in a keepsake. Check out the Facebook for the event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1505720969714866/
Saturday night is going to get interesting, because the party Freedom House is coming! Fort Greene has a life this weekend, nice to see it’s still creative energy in that hood. Freedom house is going to be interactive and interdisciplinary and veyr entertaining to say the least! Check out the Facebook page of the event, and don’t forget to shop local: https://www.facebook.com/events/1505720969714866/
Tough line-up of live music at Palisades on Broadway, in that Bushwick, East Williamsburg, Bed-Stuy nexus. It’s an EP release party for HR, the frontman for legendary Punk band, Bad Brains. He’s getting back to his Rasta roots with this EP that me made with Scotch Bonnets, a Reggae outfit from Baltimore. Don’t expect classic HR or any Punk machinations…I actually don’t know what you should expect, besides a bunch of fun. Check their Facebook Page for more info, but it’s at Palisades, 906 Broadway: https://www.facebook.com/events/1508314659418880/
The Bed-Stuy Gateway Business Improvement District (BID) is holding its first-ever #ShopLocalNYC Pop Up event on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the historic Restoration Plaza from 12:00pm -7:00pm. Spice up your seasonal shopping while supporting the businesses of your neighborhood at this premier shopping event! BID’s merchants are some of Brooklyn’s most coveted, independent artists and local, brick and mortar businesses.
Holiday enthusiasts looking to purchase creative and sure-to-be-loved gifts this season will have plenty of home-grown brands to choose from, as they spread love the Brooklyn way: fashionable clothing, vintage finds, jewelry, handbags, home goods, accessories and more! And after shopping, stick around for the annual tree lighting ceremony at Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza! A 25- foot Canadian spruce will be lit at 5:30pm for an evening of holiday joy and fellowship.
Daytime. DJ’s. Shopping. Crown Heights. Live Performances…Everything is there for you at the holiday edition of Vintage Handmade Goods & Mark et, at Friends And Lovers, at 641 Classon Avenue. Featuring DJ sets by Natasha Diggs & DJ Chela, and live performances from my man Len Xiang and also from NY Samba School, this sounds like a winner for Sunday afternoon or Sunday evening. 1pm-9pm.
