Eid-Mubarak-2011-WallpapersThe big question right now is… When is Eid al-Fitr?

Well, first, for those of you wondering what is Eid, it is the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting and spiritual introspection.

But those who are observing Ramadan this year still do not know the official end date of Ramadan and the start of Eid: It could be Monday or Tuesday.

The reason Eid is still in question is because it begins with the sighting of the new moon. And since the Islamic calendar is lunar, the exact timing of Ramadan is not a fixed thing and as yet… unknown…

Some scholars say that in order to actually acknowledge the new moon, it must be observed with the naked eye, while others argue that as long as it is identified  through the lens of a telescope, it is valid.

While still, other say an astronomical calculation is good enough…

Either way, it’s almost that time to say “Eid Mubarak!” But first, make sure you first get a good look at that moon!
