From July through November, GrowNYC distributes Fresh Foodboxes containing 7-9 seasonal fruits and vegetables, for only $10 at 16 sites across New York City.

GrowNYC’s Fresh Foodbox Program is a food access initiative that allows underserved communities to purchase fresh, healthy, locally-grown produce in pre-packed boxes containing the best of what’s seasonally available on regional farms, such as fresh eggs, honey, fresh herbs, greens, grains, fresh fruit, seasonal vegetables and more!fb-oct

Similar to CSA, Fresh Foodbox customers can take advantage of the cost benefits of buying in a group, and enjoy the quality, variety and flexibility to buy by the week rather than by the season.

Here are the locations in Brooklyn (with two locations in Bed-Stuy)!

Ace Head Start, 1419-23 Broadway; Wednesdays, 1:30pm – 4:30pm

Bishop Sexton Headstart, 933 Herkimer Street, Wednesdays, 1:30pm – 4:30pm

YMCA, 570 Jamaica Avenue, Fridays, 3:30pm – 6:30pm

Halsey Community Garden, Saturdays, 11:00am – 2:30pm

How to Get a Fresh Foodbox:

#1. Go to a Fresh Food Box site on the day and time indicated (above). Site coordinators will be wearing a shirt that says GrowNYC. You may have to stand in line.

#2. Pay $10 to the site coordinator, and give them your name and a way to reach you, either by email or phone. You can also use cash, credit, debit or EBT to pay for your Fresh Food Box.

#3. The following week, same day and time, go back to the site. The site coordinator will have a bag of seasonal produce for you to pick up! Sign up again that day for the following week!
