Brooklyn dance studio, Fit4Dance, will be hosting the "Dance Is Love" fundraiser in support of Angel Kaba, whose apartment recently burned down, leaving her and her daughter displaced in a New York City shelter in a different borough.

When Angel Kaba fled domestic violence with her seven-year-old daughter in April 2021 and found residence in Bushwick with help from the City, she thought she was starting anew; cultivating a safe and happier life away from abuse. Just three years later, Kaba and her daughter now live in a shelter in the Bronx, after she was forced to vacate her residence at 441 Wilson Ave., following three electrical fires in the building in the span of a month. As a result, Kaba now spends six hours commuting between the Bronx shelter, her daughter’s school in Brownsville, and her work in Manhattan, where she is a dance instructor.

Kaba is a renowned dancer and Afro'Dance teacher. In 2013, Angel founded AfroDance New York (ADNY) as a platform that celebrates diversity, communities, and global culture. She is also a PassionPreneur, empowering artists to fulfill their calling while building a solid business.

The event, hosted by Laci Chisholm, the owner of Fit4Dance, is a testament to community solidarity in times of need. "It is vital that we, as a community of citizens, come together to support the continuation of her work, livelihood, and security, said Chisholm in a press release. Chisholm herself had experienced a similar fire incident in the past, determined to help, the "Dance Is Love" fundraiser will support Kaba in securing a new place to live.

The "Dance Is Love" fundraiser will take place on Sunday, April 21, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Fit4Dance located at 21 Snyder Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11226. All proceeds from the event will go directly towards securing housing for Kaba and her daughter.
