ABOUT

The Brooklyn Breastfeeding Empowerment Zone is a community-based initiative that trains and empowers community members to support breastfeeding parents and families, while also activating faith-based leaders, small businesses, policy makers and others to ensure that breastfeeding becomes the norm for all families. The program focuses on Bedford-Stuyvesant and Brownsville, in North/ Central Brooklyn, two neighborhoods with a history of low breastfeeding rates. The Empowerment Zone is a three-year project funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and is part of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Brooklyn District Public Health Office.
