brooklynbridgelock_450Valentine’s Day is an opportunity for expression of love. That might be self-love (auto erotica), stealth love (creepy erotica) or chronic love (cannabis sativa erotica), though it all makes sense on February 14th, and not just in a contemporary sense, since the celebration of the day links back to saints and sinners and the Catholic church.

Brooklyn is the home of Biggie, Brisket and Basketball. But it’s also the home of love. It’s a bunch of people that feel very special and particular about someone else, and on this day, finding a great way to show that affection is important. Not that pressure should be applied, because showing affection should be an all-year thing, not just on February 14th.

But since it’s a celebration that ain’t going away, why not do it right?

Some people propose marriage to their lovers, but here’s a list of 5 things you can do that doesn’t require that much commitment:

Funeral

Love is dead. Long live love. If you’ve never been to the restaurant Brucie, located at 234 Court Street in Cobble Hill, and even more importantly, if you haven’t indulged in their world-class lasagna, then you might want to get over there this Valentine’s Day, because on February 15th, they will be officially closed.

To commemorate the closing, and give the restaurant a proper send off, Brucie is having a funeral on Valentine’s Day, the last day before it closes.

A New Orleans style closing at that, featuring the Second Line Seranders, a legit, New Orleans second line band.

You can visit the website by clicking here, to check out their special menu. Bittersweet as it may be, their going out and closing the doors in a uniquely “Brucie” style!

There will be dancing during the joyous and emotional send off and a great way to spend Valentine’s Day.

Sweat

If you are looking for something fun to do on Valentine’s Day, what about starting your celebration sweating it out next to your date before cocktails?

YO BK, a new boutique Bikram Yoga studio at 20 Broadway in Williamsburg, is holding a special Valentine’s Day class for lovers at 3pm, followed by Prosecco and chocolate-dipped strawberries. Your date attends for free. After working out side-by-side, you can wander across the street to Donna Lounge, which will have a special cocktail menu for YO BK students.

YO BK is the only Bikram Yoga studio in Williamsburg and will be celebrating its first Valentine’s Day in Brooklyn, with a holistic approach to the day of love. It will allow you to open your heart, while opening your chakras in sweaty celebration. Visit their Facebook page by clicking here, to get more info.

Slow Jams

Can You Feel The Love?

Can You Feel The Love?

Nothing says love like slow tempo R & B tunes in an amazing setting, with fantastic cocktails to boot. Sometimes the sappier the better and though all slow songs ain’t slow jams, all slow jams are slow songs and on February 14th, you can hit up Hotline Fling and get your fill of Deniece Williams, Rick James, Stevie Wonder and a treasure trove of love songs and uptempo jams that might get you all in your feelings. that make our eyes water and your libido wander. It’s even a Hotline Fling cocktail, made with champagne and wild fruit juice, that’s super tasty and delicious. Visit the Facebook event page by clicking here, for more information

Art & Erotica

Sometimes Valentine’s Day is erotic, sometimes VDay is dirty, sometimes it’s both. If you like it a little bit naughty and a little bit nice, then some visual stimulation at Tender Trap might be the thing for you. The power of suggestion is strong in art, and if a painting is pointing you in the dirty direction, go with it and wear complimentary colors.

Check out the Tender Trap website for more info about the event and their new location in Greenpoint, Brooklyn
