After a decade on the Upper East Side, the critically acclaimed monthly art forum, “The Review Panel” is moving to the Brooklyn Public Library

Founded in 2004 by New York art critic and writer David Cohen, who also is founder of artcritical.com, The Review Panel is a live public debate of New York’s rising artists. The monthly series ran for ten annual seasons at the National Academy Museum.

The show makes its Brooklyn debut on Tuesday, February 9, 7:00pm at the Brooklyn Public Library, located at 10 Grand Army Plaza.

Joining the host, David Cohen, are three critics– Siri Hustvedt, award-winning author; Roberta Smith, co-chief art critic for The New York Times; and Alexi Worth, Brooklyn-based artist and art critic– all of whom will lead a live public debate looking at four carefully selected current solo shows of new work by contemporary artists.

The series moves art criticism beyond the printed page and transforms a solitary process into a lively cultural event. Audience members, many seeing the shows ahead of the evening, play a lively role in the discussion.

As Alexi Worth wrote recently, “As print criticism shrinks, The Review Panel is ever more valuable, as a model, a magnet, and a proof that ‘serious’ can also mean ‘entertaining.’”

Panelists will discuss four exhibits: Katherine Bradford’s Fear of Waves and Elizabeth Kley’s Ozymandias, on view at the Lower East Side gallery, Canada; Charles Harlan’s Flood, at Pioneerworks, in Red Hook; and Glenn Ligon’s We Need to Wake Up Cause That’s What Time it Is, showing at Luhring Augustine Bushwick.
