Join the Center for Black Literature at Medgar Evers College, part of the City University of New York, for a special virtual event celebrating the National Black Writers Conference honoree, Percival Everett.

Everett was named as the recipient of the John A. Williams Award for the 17th National Black Writers Conference. At the Wednesday, May 1, online event, Everett will accept the award and engage in a broader conversation about his body of work, the state of Black writing and publishing, and more, according to a news release.

Everett is an award-winning author and a Distinguished Professor of English at the University of Southern California (USC). American Fiction, the feature film based on his novel Erasure, was released in 2023 and won the 2024 Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. He will be in conversation with literary activist, poet and podcaster E. Ethelbert Miller.

Miller will delve into Everett's whirlwind career in the wake of the film American Fiction and his latest work, James, an action-packed reimagining of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Both traumatic and ferociously funny, James is told from the enslaved Jim's point of view.

Grab your virtual seat at https://bit.ly/postevent_nbwc2024. The event will take place online, Wednesday May 1, from 6:30pm  - 8:00pm.
